6 Things You Should Not Pack On A Cruise Vacation

Is it your first time to go on a cruise holiday? Not exactly the light packer? We have some tips for you.

The beauty of packing a suitcase for a cruise is that there is significantly more baggage allowance than air travel. You have the luxury to pack heavier clothes, all your favorite dresses, warmers, chunky shoes, and whatnot.

However, there are things that should stay at home if you don’t them getting tossed out in the boarding area.

Here is a handy list of items that are prohibited for passengers to bring aboard a cruise ship.

Candles (all kinds)

Scented or unscented, big or small, cute or not, candles are generally prohibited on cruise ships because they are classified as a fire risk. So, if you and your partner are down for some romantic activities that involve a tub, the next best option are battery-operated candles or tea lights. The soft lighting will set the mood for long, romantic nights without the dangers or causing a fire.

A clothes iron or a steamer

Like candles, a clothes iron or a cloth steamer are considered fire hazards. If you love wrinkle-free outfits, choose a ship with a laundry service and prepare to pay for ironing. Or you can just pack clothes that do not wrinkle easy.

Alcohol

Different cruise lines have different rules. Generally, beer and spirits are not allowed and these will be confiscated before boarding. However, some cruise ships may allow a few bottles of wines for a corkage fee.

Blades

If you don’t need blades or a pocket knife during your trip, there’s no sense in packing these items. Any sort of blade will be confiscated or held by security for safekeeping and will only be returned after the voyage.

Power boards and extension cords

Electrical overloading poses a fire risk. Power boards and extension cords are classified as major fire risks similar with candles  and flat irons. If you have multiple gadgets or phones, better bring a power bank as an alternative.  

Electric kettles or coffee makers

Bringing your favorite tea or coffee mix with you is a great way to save. No need to pay for premium teas! However, coffee makers or an electric kettle to prepare your favorite drink will surely be confiscated. What you can do is to ask for a cup of hot water. Problem solved!
